“24 Hours in Napa” for Lululemon
Napa isn’t just about wine tasting and vineyards. My latest story, “24 Hours in Napa” for Lululemon includes where to spend the night, eat, and get outside.
Snapshots from Peru
I just got back from Peru for a story, and I already miss it. (Next up is Bolivia and Patagonia, I hope). From Cuzco to Machu Picchu, Maras, Chinchero, and Urubamba, here’s a glimpse of the trip and some stops along the way.

“View From The Top” q + a with architect Mickey Meunnig
As if Big Sur, California (and the surrounding areas) isn’t beautiful enough, architect Mickey Meunnig is playing a huge role in drawing attention to the landscape. His notable projects range from the Post Ranch Inn to numerous treehouse-inspired private residences.
In his new book, the accomplished architect highlights various works throughout the years, and sheds some light on his career. Read my q + a with Meunnig in California Interiors here:
“The Allure of Ojai” for Lululemon Athletica
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been traveling to Ojai for summer getaways. From the infamous pink sunsets, to countless hiking trails, and resorts such as the Ojai Valley Inn+Spa, it’s one of my don’t-miss spots in Southern California.
For Lululemon Athletica, I wrote up Ojai’s best places to sweat, stay, and eat.
“Happy Camper” in 805 Living
I grew up camping all along the California Coast, and it’s one of my favorite ways to see a place. For a night under the stars, (think a good tent, warm sleeping bag, and insect repellent), here’s my guide to the ultimate “glamping” getaway in the latest issue of 805 Living.

Nizuc Resort & Spa, new running concierge, and design innovators in Organic Spa
Mexico is one of my top picks for a true vacation. In this month’s Design issue of Organic Spa, I feature Cancun’s newcomer Nizuc Resort & Spa. And, as a runner, I love the new running concierge program at Esperanza Resort & Spa, headed up by veteran marathoner, Barbie Alvarez. Read about her and get quick, expert tips in “Fleet Feet.” I also caught up with four design tastemakers for “Design Innovators.”

“Ready For Its Close-up” in Anthology Magazine
In the Winter issue 14 of Anthology Magazine, I highlight San Francisco photographer Thayer Allyson Gowdy’s home originally built more than 100 years ago. I love her use of colorful objects (the bright pink door and black facade) and mix of materials. And, one of the things I like most about this story is the fact that she wanted to make the home uniquely hers, including taking several trips to Heath Ceramics‘ “seconds” room and painstakingly hand-selecting tiles for the bathroom and kitchen backsplash. The issue is on stands now. Here’s a partial peek:
Anyon Atelier in The San Francisco Chronicle

“Running Toward Healthy” cover story on Mariel Hemingway in Organic Spa
Mariel Hemingway is making a difference. With a new book and film, the actress and author is not only an inspiration, but she is devoted to three key things: fitness, wellness, and mental health. (She’s also one of the most down-to-earth and friendly individuals I have ever interviewed).
I sat down with Hemingway at her home in Southern California, and learned everything from her daily workout routine, to what she eats for breakfast, and why she’s never been happier than now. See the cover story in the Jan/Feb issue of Organic Spa:
“Snow Pro” in 805 Living Magazine

Flea Market Style: Grant Gibson and Caitlin Flemming at Alameda this Sunday
I’m a huge fan of the Alameda Point Antiques Faire. With more than 800 booths and some of the best one-of-a-kind pieces around, it’s also no surprise that designers from all over the globe come to sift through the goods here.
On Sunday, August 4th, my close friend and SF–based interior designer Grant Gibson, and decorator and blogger Cailtin Flemming will debut a mix of classic and global-inspired wares from their private collections. Among the curated finds? Textiles, books, Moroccan rugs (from Gibson’s own trip there last year), ceramic urns, table linens, artwork, lighting, and a hand-picked compilation of decorative objects.
